On Indian roads, accidents and near-misses are often followed by arguments rather than answers. In many cases, the outcome depends less on what happened and more on who can prove it. Dashcams, once treated as niche accessories, are increasingly becoming a practical safety tool, especially for insurance claims and legal clarity.
It is this shift that boAt is targeting with the launch of its new HIVE Dashcam series, marking the company’s entry into the in-car safety segment.
The HIVE lineup includes three models designed for different driving needs, ranging from first-time dashcam users to drivers who want full front-and-rear coverage with advanced assistance features.
The boAt HIVE Dashcam F1 sits at the top of the range. It offers dual-channel recording with 4K video at the front and Full HD recording at the rear, along with built-in GPS for route and speed logging. The model also includes ADAS features such as lane departure and forward collision alerts, aimed primarily at frequent highway drivers and long-distance commuters.
Positioned below it, the HIVE Dashcam M1 focuses on balancing resolution and practicality. It records in 2K QHD, uses a wide-angle lens to cover multiple lanes, and includes a G-sensor that automatically locks footage during sudden impacts. This model is clearly targeted at urban drivers who want sharper footage without stepping up to 4K pricing.
The entry-level HIVE Dashcam E1 is designed for everyday city use, including school runs, taxis, and commercial vehicles. It supports 1296p recording, continuous loop capture, automatic emergency recording, and Wi-Fi-based app access for quick footage retrieval.
Across all three models, boAt is using Sony STARVIS sensors, which are particularly relevant for Indian driving conditions where night visibility, uneven lighting, and headlight glare are common challenges.
Beyond recording quality, the HIVE series focuses on features that matter during real-world incidents. These include automatic collision detection, parking surveillance through motion sensing, GPS-tagged footage, and smartphone app connectivity. Together, these features aim to reduce friction during insurance claims and post-accident disputes.
The boAt HIVE Dashcam series is now available via boAt’s official website, Amazon, Flipkart, and select offline retailers. Pricing starts at ₹2,499 for the HIVE Dashcam E1, goes up to ₹4,499 for the HIVE Dashcam M1, and tops out at ₹9,990 for the HIVE Dashcam F1.
With aggressive pricing and a clear focus on everyday safety rather than enthusiast appeal, boAt is positioning dashcams as a mainstream necessity rather than a niche upgrade. The long-term success of the HIVE series will depend on reliability, software stability, and after-sales support, areas that matter as much as camera specs once a product becomes part of daily driving.
