Vivo V50 Elite Edition: 5 Things We Liked, 3 Things We Didn’t

The Vivo V50 Elite Edition has launched in India as the top-end variant in the V50 Series. It comes bundled with a free pair of Vivo TWS 3e earbuds, which is very unique in modern times where we don’t even get a charger in the box. However, the core specifications of the phone remain unchanged from the regular Vivo V50, and the device gets its “Elite” status by offering the highest amount of storage.

Having reviewed the Vivo V50 already, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new phone. Here are five things that we liked and three things that we did not like about the Vivo V50 Elite Edition.

Vivo V50 Elite Edition: Five Things We Liked

The star of the show for the Vivo V50 Elite Edition is the ZEISS optics, but the device has enough to impress beyond the cameras. A premium design, good performance, and a long-lasting battery are some to name.

1. Cameras: Zeal of Zeiss

The Vivo V50 Elite Edition brings the prowess of flagship-grade Zeiss optics at an affordable price. The camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, and a 50MP ultrawide lens, but the magic happens in the camera app. The device has a Multifocal Portrait Mode where you can adjust the focal length between 23mm, 35mm, and 50mm. It gives realistic bokeh effects, similar to what you expect from a professional-grade Zeiss lens.

2. Performance: Power of Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset based on TSMC’s ultra-efficient 4nm architecture. It is capable of generating AnTuTu scores of over 8,00,000 points, which highlights the performance capabilities of the device. The Vivo V50 Elite Edition can also deliver a smooth and consistent 60fps gaming experience in BGMI.

Since you get 12GB RAM and 512GB storage as default, you can easily multitask on the device. You also don’t have to worry about running out of storage after installing multiple large games.

3. Battery: A Marathon Runner

The 6,000mAh battery on the Vivo V50 Elite can easily last you through an entire day of usage, even if you are a super heavy user. Based on our testing of the Vivo V50, we can confidently say this. Casual users can also extract up to two days of battery life on a single charge.

When it’s time to refill the battery, the device supports 90W fast charging, which goes from 0-100% in just 45 minutes. A fast charger is also bundled in the box as a sweet addition.

4. Design: Premium to its Core

The Vivo V50 Elite Edition has a premium appeal with its glass back panel and quad-curved display. It’s available in a single Rose Red colour, which adds a royal touch and a unique look. The camera module with the ring-shaped LED flashlight also gives a unique flair.

This is such a device that will make people question you, “What phone are you using?”. So if you like attention, the Vivo V50 Elite Edition is a subtle way to flaunt your style.

5. Freebies: TWS Earbuds

Coming to the obvious, the Vivo V50 Elite Edition comes bundled with a free pair of Vivo TWS 3e earbuds. These are equipped with high resolution speaker drivers with support for DeepX 3.0 sound effects and higher bass output. The earbuds also support Intelligent Active Noise Cancellation.

These earbuds are rated for a playback time of up to 10.5 hours, which you can extend further up to 42 hours with the charging case. It’s pretty handy to get a good pair of wireless earbuds included in your phone’s box.

Vivo V50 Elite Edition: 3 Things We Did Not Like

While the Vivo V50 Elite Edition ticks most checkboxes, it has some flaws that can be a dealbreaker for some users.

1. Lack of Telephoto Lens

Even after having Zeiss optics, the Vivo V50 Elite Edition lacks a telephoto sensor. A zoom lens significantly improves the quality of portrait shots, and also comes in handy for clicking pictures of far-away objects. Considering the premium and almost flagship killer nature of the device, the lack of a telephoto sensor feels like a major miss.

2. Price

The Vivo V50 Elite Edition offers an excellent all-around package with its premium design and display, good cameras, great performance, and battery life. Since the device is only available in a 12GB+512GB top-end variant, the Rs 41,999 pricing tends to be on the higher side.

Vivo has tried to make it more affordable with a Rs 3,000 discount using bank offers. But if you don’t have an eligible card, then paying the full price might feel a bit steep, considering the competition from the OnePlus 13R and the iQOO 12.

3. Only Three Major Updates

The Vivo V50 Elite Edition is eligible for three major Android updates and four years of security patches. However, many devices in the segment offer up to 5-6 years of updates. While four years is still a long duration, it would have been better if Vivo had extended it to at least five years, just for the competition.
