Akai has launched its new range of air conditioners and refrigerators keeping in mind the extreme summers of India. The new launches are aimed at households dealing with extreme heat and rising power consumption.
The new lineup includes updated Nilgiree Split Inverter ACs and a refreshed range of Direct Cool refrigerators. Both of these lineups have been positioned around cooling performance and day-to-day practicality rather than loading them with premium smart-home features.
According to Akai, these products have been designed for Indian conditions, especially in regions where temperatures regularly touch or cross 45 degrees during peak summer months.
Akai Nilgiree Split Inverter ACs
The new Nilgiree inverter AC lineup comes in 1-ton and 1.5-ton variants, with energy ratings ranging from 3-star to 5-star.
The company says that instead of focusing on app-based controls or AI features, it has designed the series to deliver reliable cooling during extreme weather conditions, when even the most premium ACs also sometimes struggle. Akai claims that these ACs are capable of operating even when outdoor temperatures reach up to 55 degrees Celsius.
You also get features like convertible cooling modes and self-clean functionality. The AC is made with copper condenser coils and also has air purification filters to deal with the poor AQI in most Indian cities.
Along with cooling performance, the company also says that these ACs also balance energy efficiency across different room sizes and usage patterns.
Akai Direct Cool Refrigerators
Along with the ACs, Akai has also expanded its Direct Cool refrigerator portfolio. We get new models ranging from compact units to larger family-sized variants.
The new portfolio has models ranging from 48 litres to 230 litres and are aimed mostly at summer requirements such as storing water, beverages, fruits and vegetables.
This time Akai has also added support for wide voltage operation, a feature that is targeted at areas prone to voltage fluctuations during summers when electricity demand is usually pretty high.
You also get features like manual and push-button defrost systems, soft crisper compartments and brush-finish exteriors. The company also confirmed that glass-door variants will be introduced later.
Additionally, the refrigerators use R600a refrigerant, which has lower environmental impact compared to older refrigerants commonly used in cooling appliances.
Price & Availability
You can buy the new Akai appliance range through retail stores and the company’s official website.
The prices start at Rs 16,398 for refrigerators and Rs 31,490 for air conditioners. AKAI is also offering no-cost EMI options on select models.
According to industry experts, appliance makers are shifting their focus more towards “heat-ready” products as longer summers and higher temperatures now influence consumer buying decisions.
People consider things like cooling performance during extreme weather, voltage protection and energy efficiency before making a purchase decision.
