Redmi recently unveiled the Redmi Note 17 and Note 17 Pro in China. While the Chinese market has been receiving new Note models around August in recent years, Redmi has typically scheduled their global release at the beginning of the following year. This appears to be changing, as recent reports claim that the Note 17 series may debut earlier than expected in global markets, including India. In a new development, additional Note 17 series models have received approval from Thailand’s NBTC authority.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, Redmi Note 17 NBTC certified
To recall, the NBTC authority recently certified the Redmi Note 17 (4G) and Redmi 17 (4G). Around the same time, a Redmi device with model number 2609FRA74G was spotted on the Eurofins, NCC (Taiwan), EEC (Europe), and TKDN (Indonesia) certification platforms. The same device has now appeared in the NBTC database, confirming that it will launch globally as the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G.
As usual, the listing does not reveal the device’s key specifications. However, the previously spotted NCC and Eurofins certifications revealed a 9,210mAh battery, 100W charging, 5G NR, dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, USB Type-C, a microSD card slot, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Globally, the device is expected to arrive in 8GB+256GB, 8GB+512GB, 12GB+256GB, and 12GB+512GB variants.
The other listing confirms that the Redmi Note 17 5G, carrying model number 26081RA18G, has also received NBTC certification. According to a recent X post by tipster Kacper Skrzypek, it will feature the same specifications as the Chinese version. The only notable difference could be a 7,700mAh battery on the global model instead of the 8,000mAh battery found in the Chinese edition. He also claimed that the Indian variant will retain the larger 8,000mAh battery.
The “2608” and “2609” prefixes in the model numbers also suggest that the Redmi Note 17 and Note 17 Pro Max could launch in August and September, respectively.
Xiaomi 17 Fold CMIIT certified
The above screengrab shows that Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phone with model number 2608BPX34C has received CMIIT certification in China. While its final marketing name remains unclear, it is currently being referred to as the Xiaomi 17 Fold, Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, or Xiaomi Mix Fold 6.
According to reports, the Xiaomi 17 Fold may run Android 17-based HyperOS 4 and feature the company’s in-house Xring O3 chipset. More importantly, the device is expected to adopt a wider foldable design, similar to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, the rumoured iPhone Ultra, and Huawei’s foldable lineup.
It is also tipped to feature a 7.6-inch foldable display, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 200-megapixel primary camera, and a 6,000mAh battery. The “2608” prefix in the model number suggests it could launch in August. There is currently no information about its global release.
Xpert Take
Bringing the Redmi Note 17 series to global markets earlier than usual could be a smart move, as it would significantly reduce the gap between the China and international launches. This would allow Redmi to remain more competitive in overseas markets while ensuring buyers gain access to the latest hardware much sooner.
Xiaomi skipped launching a new Mix Fold model last year, and it now appears ready to return with a refreshed foldable. If the company adopts a wider foldable design, it could offer a more practical experience for productivity, multitasking, and media consumption while taking on rivals such as Samsung and Huawei.
