OnePlus made headlines in India in November 2025 by debuting the OnePlus 15 as the country’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The upcoming OnePlus 16 could aim to achieve a similar milestone this year. With its launch still around ten months away, the rumour mill has already begun leaking key details. A fresh leak now suggests that the phone may pack an unusually large battery, potentially the biggest among similarly priced flagship phones.
OnePlus 16 battery size tipped
According to the latest leak, the OnePlus 16 could be equipped with a massive 9,000mAh battery. While this capacity is not entirely new for OnePlus, as the Turbo 6 and Turbo 6V already feature 9,000mAh batteries, those models are limited to the Chinese market. If the OnePlus 16 adopts a similar battery size for a global flagship, it would mark a significant shift in OnePlus’ battery strategy.
The display is also expected to see a major upgrade. Reports claim that the OnePlus 16 may feature a flat panel with a 200Hz ultra-high refresh rate, which would place it among the fastest-refreshing displays on a mainstream flagship smartphone.
On the performance front, the OnePlus 16 is tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, which is said to be built using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. The chipset lineup is expected to include Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro variants.
The Pro version is rumoured to power Ultra-branded flagships launching in China. Some leaks suggest that OnePlus could also introduce a OnePlus 16 Ultra, which may use the Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, while the standard OnePlus 16 could feature the regular Elite Gen 6.
According to reports, the OnePlus 16 is said to feature a 200-megapixel main camera, supported by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. This camera setup is expected to be inherited from the Oppo Find N6 foldable phone, which is launching in China in the coming weeks.
Xpert Take
The OnePlus 15 is a solid flagship but faced criticism for not delivering major camera improvements over its predecessor. If these leaks turn out to be accurate, the OnePlus 16 could address those concerns with a more advanced camera system, a 200Hz display, a next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a significantly larger battery. Together, these upgrades could position it as a far more compelling and well-rounded flagship.
